Mission

Senior Link Midland's Mission is to address challenges related to aging and develop efficient, flexible and compassionate ways to meet the needs of our community. Our vision is to improve the quality of life for seniors in Midland. SLM programs and services are designed and implemented to address identified needs in the community. In coordination and collaboration with other program providers, unduplicated services are provided to address such needs as hunger and malnutrition, loneliness and social isolation, home safety and security, aging information and education. SLM was initiated as an outreach program of the First Christian Church in 1974 and later incorporated as a stand-alone non-profit in 1982. The donation of the Fuhrman-Vogel Center in 1987 allowed an expansion of programs and the addition of a large commercial kitchen to prepare meals for three local senior centers and the Meals-on-Wheels program. SLM joined the United Way in 1988. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) started in 1994 to recruit and place senior volunteers with local nonprofit agencies. Federal funding for the Foster Grandparent and the Senior Companion Programs was received in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
