More about this organization

Mission

The APANO Communities United Fund is a statewide, grassroots organization, uniting Asians and Pacific Islanders to achieve social justice. We use our collective strengths to advance equity through empowering, organizing and advocating with our communities.

About

Community organizing, leadership development, civic engagement: Our community organizing programs are working to empower Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants as well as Asian and Pacific Islander youth. They are working on community driven solutions in housing and transportation and improving educational outcomes. This includes participating in a successful coalition that passed a bill requiring public schools in Oregon to have ethnic studies curriculum. Our school based programs have a proven track record of improving attendance and graduation rates in participants. This year we also continued our work developing new leaders through the Asian Pacific Islander Community Leadership Institute and Neighborhood Leaders of SE Portland through our climate health and housing institute. Finally, our civic engagement programs has built a statewide network of API led organizations that works together in registering new voters, civic education, and getting out the vote.
