More about this organization
Mission
Freedom for Immigrants is devoted to abolishing immigration detention, while ending the isolation of people currently suffering in this profit-driven system. We visit and monitor 55 immigrant prisons and jails, and we run the largest national hotline for detained immigrants. Through these windows into the system, we gather data and stories to combat injustice at the individual level and push systemic change.
About
Alternatives to detention: Our community-based alternative to detention model treats people with dignity while keeping people in their communities where they belong. We operate a revolving immigration bond fund where we raise funds to post bond for detained immigrants, and just this year we have bonded out 191 individuals from immigration detention, and provided assistance post release. With this model and careful data tracking, we are proving this model is more humane and less costly than immigration detention.
