About
Over 30 teen girls in Foster Care actively participated in PEARLS Court Programming in 2019. 88 percent promoted to the next grade; 81 percent progressed toward stable and permanent placement; 92 percent exhibited improved stress management; 96 percent chose to postpone motherhood; 81 percent avoided tobacco, alcohol and unprescribed drugs. 100 percent learned additional life skills to be more prepared to age out of Foster Care. The program met two times per month for evening sessions and one weekend activity per month. PEARLS Court assists teen girls in Foster Care in learning to value their whole selves and their inherent strengths. The goal is to enable youth to heal from past trauma, build resilience, reach educational goals, develop healthy relationships, and become accomplished adults, role models, and leaders. PEARLS Court currently serves female adolescents ages 14-18 with current PMC cases in Bexar County. In January of 2020, the therapeutic foster care court will expand to serve male teens in foster care in Bexar County.
