Mission

To foster a peaceful and self-sustaining presence on the Moon, with the goals of safeguarding Earth's species and knowledge and promoting the positive evolution of human civilization.

About

Open Lunar is a nonprofit organization headquartered in San Francisco, California. We work globally, engaging in programs and activities that help create a peaceful, self-sustaining presence on the Moon. We focus on contributing to progress and innovation in technical standards, policy and regulation, and shared infrastructure and hardware. Our initiatives are sourced in partnership with a global inter-disciplinary professional network and developed through projects that benefit from independent evaluation, coaching and financial support.

We achieve these goals through impactful initiatives, including but not limited to:

- Fellowships: an international fellowship program supporting young scholars in conducting cutting-edge research on lunar technical and policy questions.

- The Breaking Ground Trust: Demonstrating stewardship of lunar resources through a Perpetual Purpose Trust.

- The Moon Dialogs' Lunar Policy Handbook (LPH): Developing a guidebook on policy and operational considerations for lunar activities in collaboration with partner organizations.

- Policy Advocacy: Engaging in international dialogue on platforms such as the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, the Paris Peace Forum, Lunar Surface Science Innovation Workshops, and the Astra Carta.

In pursuit of our mission, the Organization conducts fundraising efforts to secure necessary resources and provides grants to advance our objectives. The organization may also engage in ancillary or related activities that further contribute to fulfilling our mission.
