Mission
Our mission is to provide free legal and social services to detained adults and unaccompanied children facing immigration removal proceedings in Arizona.
About
During 2019, immigrant detention doubled in Arizona, and the project expanded its advocacy work. The project continued providing legal services to detained immigrants giving know your rights presentations to 5,030 adults and 5,604 unaccompanied children in federal custody; provided case assistance to 3,049 detained adults. The project met with 5,567 migrant children, providing them individual case assessments and for those with no family served as their attorney. The project took on 532 new clients and represented hundreds more from previous years; placed 101 cases with pro bono lawyers; provided social services to 534 people; responded to 220 family separation cases; assisted 123 kids under 5-years old. When the migrant protection protocols went into effect, mobilized a team to provide legal services to over 1,000 people in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, and continue to expand this program.
