Accomplishments

  • In fiscal year 2019, project read served 46 students. during fy2019, 80 percent of the project read students who were retested using the test of adult basic education (tabe) increased their skills in either reading, language, or math (67 percent of those retested achieved a level gain - a 1.0 grade-level equivalent (gle) increase in either reading, language, or math), and the average gain was 1.4 gle. in addition, in fy2019, 57 percent of project read's students achieved at least one literacy-related goal. some of the goals accomplished by project read students in fy 2019 include the following: 2 entered employment, 16 retained employment, 8 improved employment/received a raise, 10 achieved level gains, 2 received a ged/high school diploma, 2 passed the toefl, 3 were placed in post-secondary education/training, 1 became a u.s. citizen, 1 obtained a driver's license, and 3 graduated from project read. 155 volunteers helped project read serve 46 students who learned skills that improved not only their own personal lives but also the lives of their spouses and children (70 immediate family members impacted).project read could not fulfill its mission without the help of the 155 dedicated volunteers this year who helped teach students and train tutors. volunteers also helped with fundraising, public relations, website and technical support, and general office tasks. project read board members are also volunteers. these dedicated individuals provided 5,590 hours of volunteer service during the last fiscal year.
