About this organization
Mission
NMAP's mission is to advance human rights by merging law with multimedia storytelling to bring the voices of people who have suffered violations into the halls of power. Rather than convey messages, we work with civil society to develop strategic media narratives that change perspectives and increase access to justice for vulnerable communities. We produce audience-focused videos and other media designed to win cases and campaigns, influence policy, mobilize communities, and make technical policy and legal language accessible. NMAP uses its expertise in filmmaking, law, advocacy, and storytelling to work towards an expansive vision of the human rights movement. One that embraces the cross-disciplinary spirit of the 21st Century, and brings together filmmakers, radical lawyers, artists
About
In 2018, NMAP partnered with more than 20 civil society organizations to make measurable progress on complex problems where new narratives, reframing, and unconventional approaches are most needed. We continued to fight extractive industry abuse by using video to empower rural communities targeted for mining to defend their rights; launched a mentorship program for activists in former Soviet countries fighting disinformation; and more.
