Mission

By offering a small, neighborhood-scale shelter and companionship to individuals who are recovering from an acute episode of mental illness, Plymouth Healing Communities breaks the cycle of hospitalization and homelessness and provides a positive alternative to living on the street.

About

Plymouth Healing Communities (PHC) works to end the devastating cycle of hospitalization to homelessness for adults in Seattle who have experienced a grave mental health incident. PHC's model involves small-scale, resident-centric housing integrated with companionship provided by paid staff and volunteers. Companionship is a way of being in the world where one "walks along side" another person who is on a journey of living with mental illness. Within the PHC community, we know that healing takes place when vulnerable people are shown the care, love and respect that they deserve. PHC supports 47 residents across six properties that are either owned or managed by PHC. One home is emergency/respite housing with residential staff who provide comprehensive companionship, and the remainder are permanent supportive housing with consistent, but less intensive companionship. PHC's model has been evaluated by the University of Washington, which found that 95% of PHC residents remain stable in their housing for three or more years. With a focus on building circles of care and community for residents and reducing the stigma of mental illness, PHC contributes in significant ways to improving the quality of life for 47+ vulnerable adults each year.
