About

In 2017, Aspiration facilitated at least 37 events across North America, Central America, Europe, and Africa. These events dealt with a wide variety of nonprofit technology issues that affect human rights workers, environmental organizations, free and open knowledge and software, internet freedom, and grassroots organizations. Thousands of nonprofit staff, activists, and students representing hundreds of organizations benefited from our interactive, inclusive event format at these gatherings.Aspiration's Core Skills Capacity Building Program used new grant funding from the CRT Settlement Fund to embark on needs assessment research across California, allowing us to develop workshops and programs that will be of the most use to the most organizations in 2018 and beyond. Aspiration also self-funded its first ever New York Community Technology Skillshare in 2017, which brought together nonprofit staff, social justice organizers, techies, activists, journalists, and students to share knowledge and build skills and capacity. Our Human Rights Technology Program conducted interviews and research and published a report exploring the viability of a Human Rights Technology Research and Development Lab to strengthen human rights worldwide.Aspiration's San Francisco Nonprofit Technology Center continued to offer free and below market rate office and meeting space to nonprofits using technology for social change. We became the fiscal sponsor of the Collaborative Knowledge Foundation, a project that is dedicated to transforming how knowledge is created, improved, and shared in nonprofit academic contexts by building community-owned software solutions in open science, open research, and open education.Aspiration held its 14th annual Nonprofit Software Development Summit in Oakland in November 2017. Our best attended Summit to date, it included more than 150 participants from more than 90 different organizations around the world.
