Orca Network is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the whales of the Pacific Northwest, and the importance of providing them healthy and safe habitats

About

Education coordinator and new education assistant trained pods of volunteers to present at regional fairs and events. 102 educational events served 17,000 participants and attendees. Educated the public about the harm done to highly intelligent, social mammals such as orcas when held captive. The Langley whale center served 24,500 visitors, and in our larger space increased number of events and activities including monthly youth activities at the whale center. Obtained several significant grants to add staff to our growing programs, and continued partnership with the Salish Sea hydrophone project to monitor whales and ship traffic noise. Whale sighting network provided researchers and public with detailed reports of 5,000 sightings. Marine mammal stranding network answered 310 calls; and coordinated responses to 30 stranded marine mammals; educated public about stranded marine mammal vulnerabilities; gathered data and conducted research into emerging marine mammal diseases and antibiotic resistance.
