The mission of Reel Recovery is to help men cope with the impact of cancer by introducing them to the healing powers of the sport of fly-fishing, while providing a safe, supportive environment to explore their personal experiences of cancer with others who share their stories.
About
REEL RECOVERY HAS ONE PROGRAM, OUR NATIONAL RETREAT PROGRAM, WHICH, IN 2018, CONSISTED OF 29 RETREATS IN 19 STATES AND NEW ZEALAND. THESE RETREATS SERVED OVER 325 MEN, RANGING IN AGE FROM 23-90, WITH ALL FORMS OF CANCER, IN ALL STAGES OF TREATMENT AND/OR RECOVERY. SINCE OUR INCEPTION IN 2003, WE HAVE NOW CONDUCTED 296 RETREATS SERVING OVER 3,300 MEN LIVING WITH CANCER.WE HAVE A DEDICATED GROUP OF OVER 700 VOLUNTEERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, WHO ORGANIZE, FUNDRAISE AND IMPLEMENT THE RETREATS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. THIS HUGE VOLUNTEER BASE ALLOWS US TO KEEP OUR OVERHEAD VERY LOW, WITH ONLY TWO FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND PROGRAM DIRECTOR - AND APPLY OVER 85% OF REVENUE TO OUR PROGRAM SERVICES. ALL RETREATS WERE COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE TO THE PARTICIPANTS.
