About
THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP NETWORK (THE ORGANIZATION OR SCLN) WAS FOUNDED IN 1989 AS A CALIFORNIA NONPROFIT CORPORATION. IN 2006, THE LEADERSHIP L.A. ORGANIZATION (FOUNDED IN 1987) AND THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP NETWORK JOINED FORCES IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOS ANGELES AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (THE "CHAMBER"). PROGRAMS MERGED UNDER ONE UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION, THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP NETWORK. SCLN FACILITATES THREE CIVIC LEADERSHIP FELLOWSHIPS. LEADERSHIP L.A. AND LEADERSHIP SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDE ISSUES BASED LEARNING, LEADERSHIP SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND NETWORKING ACTIVITIES FOR COMMUNITY, REGIONAL AND STATEWIDE LEADERS. SCLN ALSO FACILITATES THE RIORDAN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (RLI). RLI IS A NINE-MONTH FELLOWSHIP THAT PREPARES EARLY TO MID-CAREER PROFESSIONALS TO SERVE ON NONPROFIT BOARDS, AND WAS PREVIOUSLY HOUSED AT THE L.A. JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. IN ADDITION, SCLN CARRIES OUT PROGRAMMING THAT SUPPORTS THE ONGOING NETWORKING AND EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF ITS 3,000+ ALUMNI.IN 2018, ALL THREE FELLOWSHIPS LEADERSHIP L.A., LEADERSHIP SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND RIORDAN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE MET OR EXCEEDED RECRUITMENT GOALS, INCLUDING NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS AND TUITION REVENUE GENERATED. EXPENSES FOR ALL THREE PROGRAMS ALSO REMAINED WELL UNDER BUDGET, PROVING TOP-CALIBER PROGRAMMING CAN BE ACHIEVED COST-EFFECTIVELY. IN ADDITION, THROUGH THE STRATEGIC AND COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS OF THE SCLN BOARD, ALUMNI, STAFF AND PARTNERS, THE ORGANIZATION SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED THE DIVERSITY OF BOTH LEADERSHIP L.A. AND LEADERSHIP SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CLASSES, REACHING A GREATER NUMBER OF UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES THAN AT ANY TIME IN THE ORGANIZATION'S HISTORY, AS WELL AS NEW INDUSTRIES AND SECTORS THAT HAVE NOT PARTICIPATED IN THE PAST. ALL THREE PROGRAMS FELL SHORT OF SPONSORSHIP GOALS, LARGELY DUE TO THE ADDITION OF THE NEXTLA PROGRAM AND SCHEDULING OF THE NEXTLA CONFERENCE SO CLOSE TO THE VISIONARIES AWARDS. IN 2019, SCLN WILL NOT HOST THE NEXTLA CONFERENCE, ENABLING THE ORGANIZATION TO FOCUS ON RAISING REVENUE FOR ITS FELLOWSHIPS AND VISIONARIES AWARDS.
