About
Youth (Junior) rowing program is offered to kids in grades 6 to 12 during the school year and summer. Approximately 100 students participate during the year. In addition, there are approximately 70 students who travel from all over the country to participate in a three week long camp with Rogue Rowing coaches. They learn rowing technique, teamwork, water safety, the discipline required to develop fitness and to be a competitive rower. They learn how to handle equipment and how to follow instructions. They learn how to develop and carry out a race strategy, how to prepare mentally and how to take care of their bodies with good nutrition, effective training with attention to intensity and recovery. Several junior members have gone to national competitions and many have gone on to compete as members of college crews. Juniors have found that their rowing achievements were an asset on college entrance applications.
