More about this organization

Mission

To preserve, archive and present the history of Sunnyvale so people of Sunnyvale can have a close-up, well-documented look at their unique history . . . from the Ohlone Indians who lived in their Valley in the distant past, to the technological developments of the present and all of the historical events in between . . . which have shaped the Sunnyvale they know today.

About

Each year more than 1,000 third graders from local schools spend a morning at the museum where they are guided through Sunnyvale's history. Trained Sunnyvale Historical Society docents give a background presentation on Sunnyvale's history, show a video on the Murphy Family's 1844 trek to California, and lead tours through the museum. The children use artifacts from that period, including kitchen items, water pump, wash tub, ringer, clothing, and old fashioned toys, all of which help them to better understand life in Sunnyvale's past.
