Mission
Playground is a leading playwright incubator and operator of the theatre community hub, Potrero Stage. Playground's mission is to support the development of significant new local voices for the theatre with a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Playground has developed a unique model for identifying and nurturing the Bay Area's best new writers and helping introduce these artists and their work to the broader Bay Area and, ultimately, national theatre communities. Through its new play incubation, production and presenting programs, Playground supports more than 500 local artists and reaches over 10,000 annually.
About
Monday night Playground produce staged readings of thirty-six original short works from more than 150 submissions for an audience of 1,200+ with participation of more than 180+ theatre artists (6 performances). Playground festival of new works produce a six-week new works festival celebrating the best new short and full-length plays, including best of Playground, an annual showcase featuring a fully-produced evening-length program of the best 6-7 short works from the Monday night series, staged readings of new full-length plays commissioned and/or developed by Playground, and premieres of two full-length plays developed in past festivals, for an audience of 1,100+ with participation of nearly 100 theatre artists (40 performances).
