Tabernacle Community Development Corporation sponsored its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr celebration. The celebration is an interfaith, citywide commemoration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King. The annual celebration is one of the largest in the nation. The celebration includes: 1. The freedom train, where thousands journey up the San Francisco Peninsula to join a march to Yerba Buena Gardens, the site of the King memorial. 2. The garden program where labor, church and political leaders join in speaking to the legacy of Dr. King in inspirational format. 3. The community fair, where the community organizations use booths and tables to dispense information on issues vital to community health and uplift. 4. The theatre, where spoken words, jazz and media art are combined to educate youth and parents on core issues in the work of Dr. Martin Luther King. The attendance is estimated at 7,000.
