Exhibitions:During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019, the History Center received significant community praise for the exhibition LGBTQ+ San Diego: Stories of Struggles + Triumphs the first comprehensive exhibition of the history of San Diegos LGBTQ+ community to be located in Balboa Park. The exhibition, in partnership with Lambda Archives of San Diego, was curated by noted LGBTQ scholar Dr. Lillian Faderman and was conceived with the help of a community advisory group. The exhibition has served as the focal point for nearly a dozen public programs, including San Diego Prides World Youth Forum and on-going diversity enrichment training by the San Diego County Sheriffs Department. In June of 2019, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ history, San Diego Pride honored the San Diego History Center with its Stonewall Community Service Award.Additional exhibitions held throughout the fiscal year include: Im Not Like You: Notes from the San Diego Underground, Her-Story (ongoing) and Balboa Park The Jewel of San Diego documentary.Research Archive:The document archives and photography collections are made available in the Research Archive for the benefit of the public, scholars, students, professional researchers and the local business community. The Research Archive serves as the public portal to the History Centers collections.
