Since 1995, the Lacer (Literacy, Arts, Culture, Education, and Recreation) afterschool programs has provided under-served middle and high school youth with an after school program which includes academics, arts, and athletics in a safe and caring environment that expands learning and inspires students. The award-winning programs are led by professional artists, tutors, and coaches and located at four middle schools and two high schools. Lacer was the recipient of 2003 Coming Up Taller Award from the President's Commission on the Arts and Humanities and a has received generous funding from at the Federal, State and local level including multiple Artists in Schools Awards from the California Arts Council.
