About

PROVIDED FUNDING THROUGH VARIOUS GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS AND GRANTS, SUCH AS WORK FORCE INVESTMENT ACT, CALWORKS, COMMUNITY BLOCK DEVELOPMENT GRANTS, AND AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE VARIOUS SUPPORT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTH.We would like to share a success story featuring one of our youth.Joseph Sanchez was a 20 year old Glendale youth who came to the Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) looking for opportunities to grow in the workforce. He heard that GYA offers youth on probation a chance to work and gain valuable experience. Initially he was skeptical about the program, given he had no luck in his job search in the past year and quickly learned that the program staff are genuinely passionate about the work and were there to help him succeed. Upon enrolling in GYAs Youth Employment Program, Joseph was placed at Glendale Water & Power (GWP) Power Plant to work as an entry level clerical assistant. He became fascinated with the work and took serious steps in getting a degree in water technology. He also impressed his supervisor with his hard work and dedication. Joseph gained valuable experiences as a participant in GYA and gained confidence in himself. He is now on the right path to succeed in the workforce and become a valuable member of our community.
