Mission

Rooted in the great human rights struggles for equality and justice, we exist to fulfill America's promise of a caring, inclusive, and just democracy.

About

Advancement Project California had amazing success in pursuing our vision of racial equity for all Californians in 2018 by working together with communities across issues, across geography, and across divisions of race, ethnicity, and class. We accomplished our work largely through our three main program areas, and an inaugural, cross-programmatic initiative. Political Voice works to make sure state and local governments are more participatory and representative of the communities they serve. The team continued its work on ensuring that the disadvantaged and underrepresented populations in L.A. County and throughout the state that are designated as hard-to-count (HTC) will be more accurately counted in Census 2020. This work included serving as the lead organization in the statewide Census Policy Advocacy Network and the local Los Angeles Regional Census Table while guiding and collaborating with hundreds of other nonprofits and community-based organizations to secure millions of additional outreach dollars, increased awareness of HTC populations' multiple participation challenges, and community-based input from these populations to increase their representation in Census 2020.
