Mission

The Los Altos Educational Foundation raises funds to sustain and enrich the Los Altos School District’s excellent educational program beyond what public funding provides.

About

A non-profit foundation led by parent volunteers, the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) raises funds to provide teachers and staff for essential programs at all Los Altos School District (LASD) neighborhood schools, benefiting every TK-8 student this school year. LAEF helps fill the gap in school funding from federal, state, and local sources and is the only way for parents to fund LASD teaching staff in our district. LAEF funds teachers and staff for physical education (PE) in elementary schools, computer science, librarians, 4th-6th grade music, the Art Docents program, the Living Classroom program, junior high electives, and mental health counseling. LAEF is also a proud co-sponsor of the MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is this donation tax-deductible?

This donation will be made through your DAF account at Daffy, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity. The amount you can deduct depends on your filing status, whether you itemize, your adjusted gross income (AGI), and the type of asset contributed.

For itemizers, contributions to your Daffy fund are generally eligible for an immediate tax deduction in the calendar year the contribution is made. It's important to note:

    • Contributions to your Daffy fund are generally tax-deductible.
    • After you contribute, you’ll receive a tax receipt by email, and you can access your Tax Summary in your Daffy account at any time.
    • Donations made from your Daffy fund to charities are not tax-deductible.
    • Transfers between DAFs (within Daffy or to/from another DAF provider) are not tax-deductible.

For non-itemizers, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), passed in July 2025, introduced a new deduction for non-itemizers of up to $1,000 ($2,000 for married couples filing jointly) for direct cash donations to charities. Contributions to a DAF like Daffy are typically not eligible for this deduction.

For questions about the OBBBA or other tax matters, we recommend consulting a tax professional about your specific situation.

  • Do I have to create a Daffy account?
Yes, you’ll need to create a Daffy account as we need your name and email to provide you with a donation receipt. To donate to LAEF, you will create a free Supporter account. However, if you’d like to use Daffy for all your charitable giving, you can learn more about the benefits of a donor-advised fund and our additional membership options.
  • How does Daffy work?
With Daffy, you get access to a donor-advised fund account, a tax-advantaged investment account for the sole purposes of charity (think 401(k)s and IRAs, but for charity). With Daffy, it's easier to put money aside for charity. You can make your tax-deductible contributions all at once, or you can set aside a little each week or month. And you don't just have to donate cash, you can easily contribute stocks, ETFs, or crypto. Then, you can give to more than 1.7 million charities, schools, and faith-based organizations in a matter of seconds.
  • How do I modify or cancel a recurring donation?
It’s easy. You can modify or cancel a recurring donation by going to "Donations" on the Daffy app or website. Your recurring donation to LAEF will appear at the top under "Upcoming Donations." Click or tap the donation for the option to cancel or modify to appear.
  • Can my employer match this donation?

You can easily submit the donation receipt to your employer for matching. You can either forward the receipt that is emailed to you or you can:

    1. Find the donation you’d like your employer to match by going to "Donations" on the Daffy app or website
    2. Click or tap “Get Receipt” and download the receipt
