About

Kendall Betts Horn Camp 2018 consisted of two one-week sessions, serving 50 participants each week. Participants, aged 14 and up, were divided into three divisions, high school, college, and adult. KBHC Week One served 22 high school students, 12 college students, and 16 adult participants. KBHC Week Two served 19 high school students, 16 college students, and 15 adult participants. Thirteen participants attended both weeks: 9 high school students, 3 college students, and one adult participant. Of the 87 total participants in attendance over the course of the two weeks, 38 were returning while 49 attended KBHC for the first time. From a program standpoint, KBHC 2018 continued the momentum created by changes to curriculum and faculty made the previous year. All 15 faculty members had at least one year of prior experience on faculty at KBHC. Of the 8 staff, 6 were returning members, and 2 were new to the staff role but had attended KBHC as participants. The expanded curriculum implemented in 2017 was offered once again in 2018. In addition to daily guided warmups, masterclasses, private lessons, open studios, individual practice time, valved horn ensembles, and natural horn ensembles, electives were offered in orchestral excerpt study, ear training, Alexander Technique, natural horn study, and yoga. Evening sessions included lecture-style presentations, concerts, and KBHCs signature Clam Night.
