SFP works in rural areas of the Dominican Republic. In the past fiscal year our efforts in the mountains of Villa Altagracia county within the province of San Cristobal in the community of La Rosa, just 45 minutes northwest of Santo Domingo. In SFP FY 2018-19 23 Volunteers participated programs in the Dominican Republic to complete the final stages of the Water Tank Project that was initiated in 2017.In January 2019, 9 professors from the Academic Civic Engagement Department at Appalachian State University ASU.They completed covering the walls of the interior of the water tank project to prepare for painting. SFP held a meeting with the professors from ASU in which strategies were developed so that ASU can collaborate and support the community projects that SPP elaborates with the support of its students in the coming years.SFP arranged meetings with the ASU professors in collaboration with the University of Pucamaima, the University Unibe, the nonprofit organization Project Hope and the Office of the First Lady of the Dominican Republic in order to strengthen partnerships for collaboration in future projects.In March 2019, 14 students from ASU completed painting the walls and floor of the water tank of the La Rosa community. They were working alongside volunteer members of the community, with whom they created friendship ties and each shared a little more about each others' cultures.
