Mission

Packer promotes individual success within a vibrant educational community reflecting what is best in our city. We offer a rigorous academic program that challenges the mind and engages our students' full capabilities and talents. A rich and varied educational experience fosters creative problem-solving, develops confident use of the intellect, and encourages personal growth and exploration. Our role is not simply to prepare students for success in higher education but to equip them for a fulfilling and meaningful life. Since our founding in 1845, Packer has captured the vitality and commitment which arise when people of diverse experience collaborate in shared enterprise. An involved community of educators, students, alumni and families contributes to an environment of high expectations -- aimed at nurturing the strength of character and independence of thought that have marked Packer's students for a century and a half.

About

Instructional and education - from preschool to high school, Packer provided education to 1,040 students in FY 17-18. Packer is proud of the outstanding education we offer to our students. Our lower school stresses the fundamentals of literacy and mathematics in a joyful, student-focused environment, with ample time built in for social studies, science, art, music, library studies, dance, and physical education. Our lower school classrooms each have in-class libraries, current curricular materials, modern technology, wonderfully trained and experienced head and associate teachers. See schedule O for continuation. Starting in the middle school, Packer students participate in a school-wide laptop program, with each youngster utilizing his or her own computer, working in classrooms equipped with smart boards and other multi-media, so that technology is truly integrated as a daily part of everyone's education. Most Packer students begin to learn a foreign language in grade 6 and continue their studies through upper school. In the upper school, students encounter a rigorous and exciting program of required and elective offerings that enable them to pursue particular strength and talents. Modern science laboratories, gymnasium, a theater, and art, dance and music studios serve as ideal venues for beginning and advanced study in these areas. Opportunities also abound for young men and women to participate in competitive interscholastic athletics at both the varsity and junior varsity levels.
