Jawonio Day Services has been recognized by the White House, NYS Senate and NYS Legislature for its advocacy and the services it provides to support individuals with special needs. Participants volunteer in the community and gain vocational and employment skills. 2) Employment Services: Jawonio is the leading employment services provider in the Mid-Hudson region of New York State for people with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Since the inception of this program in 1987, Jawonio has placed individuals in 6,000 jobs. Placement is based on each individual's unique strengths and the employer's needs. Jawonio's innovative and inclusive approach to employment and social enterprises enable workers to reach their full potential, retain and excel in their jobs and be productive citizens, decreasing reliance on public benefits and reaching economic stability and independence. Our employment services average retention rate is 7 years in the same job and salaries range from $11 to $36 per hour. The Youth Internship Program was developed to provide job readiness and skills experience to young people with special needs by placing them in supervised internships at businesses in the community. This hands-on work experience prepares youth workers with disabilities for the world of work and competitive employment. This program has expanded from 13 to 125 young people, ages 16 - 21 in the past three years. 3) Jawonio Cleaning Services: The 'Jawonio Cleaning Company' is a social enterprise that provides employment for individuals with and without disabilities and mental health challenges. The majority of the jobs and income are from preferred source contracts through the New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID), which are competitive contracts that pay prevailing wages and benefits.
