For 2018, SBEF served 245 youth in grades 4-12 with the following results:- High School Career Development We placed 14 high school students in internships in summer 2018. Placements included: Harry Gordon School (2); Mediterranean Shipping (1 part-time; stipend paid by host); Stonesong Press (1); BronxNet TV (4 part-time); World Youth Alliance (2); RAIN (1); Liberty Partnerships (1); Murray Hill Institute (1); Inter Insurance (1; new; stipend paid by host). In addition to four guest speakers, we also hosted several career field trips, including workshops at Fox News, Dow Jones, Google, Botanical Gardens, Bronx Zoo, Museum of Natural History, PIMCO, and a video conference call with Dr. Sandra Cauffman, NASA Space Director.- College Preparation 100% of our 12th graders in 2018 graduated from high school on time. We had 5 graduates from Rosedale. 100% of our 12th graders matriculated at college in September 2017. St. Johns University; Medgar Evers College; Iona College; Monroe College; Mercy College.- College Persistence Former Senior Program Director, Gabriella Fullon, transitioned to being a program consultant to continue our college persistence work. She was able to meet with 7 of our college alumni from Iona College, SUNY Purchase, Manhattan College, St. John's University, and City College CUNY. Topics discussed were college majors, career paths, networking, social activities, finances, professional and academic mentorship and internships. Gabriella will continue this mentoring work with our college women for the upcoming year as well.- Core Academic Instruction - We continued to provide our two core services including: 1) Individual School Year Tutoring through which students in grades 4-12 were paired with college volunteers for tutoring 2.5 hours/day for 4 days per week. In 2018, we regularly engaged 104 college volunteers for this initiative, many of whom came from Fordham University. 2) Summer Achievement Program as our flagship program that prepared youth in grades 4-8 for high school through an intensive 5-week summer academy that includes English, math, writing, character, art, sports, and weekly excursions.We upgraded our summer curriculum with new STEM activities for students beginning in the 4th grade.
