Mission

The Museum of American Finance is dedicated to preserving, exhibiting and teaching about American finance and financial history. A Smithsonian Affiliate, the nation's only finance museum strives to increase the public's understanding of the power and value of finance. The Museum promotes financial education through original and inventive exhibits, a highly-regarded lecture/symposia series, innovative education programs for elementary through graduate level students, a world-class collection of financial documents and artifacts and its quarterly publication, Financial History. From investment basics to Bitcoin and beyond, the Museum educates the public about what drives the capital markets to bring perspective to the financial and economic challenges of tomorrow.

About

Collection and exhibition programs: In 2018, the museum vacated its former building at 48 Wall Street due to a flood in its space in January 2018. None of the collections were damaged, and the 10,000+ objects in its care were immediately moved to a climate-controlled art storage facility in Queens, New York. Since then, the museum has installed temporary displays and exhibits in a variety of public and private spaces in New York City and beyond. In 2018, the largest of these was 'Out of the Vault,' a traveling exhibition of more than 40 highlights from its permanent collection, which was on view at the Schwab Impact 2018 conference in Washington, DC. 'Out of the Vault' showcased some of the most unique, interesting and historical artifacts in the museum's collection, many of which had never before been on public display.
