About

2018 Theme; UPLIFT, TRANSFORM, COLLABORATE: CREATING A CULTURE OF PEACE- Our annual National Leadership Retreat recapitulated our national theme for 2018, and it was a resounding success. Forty-four women ages 20 and up, representing 17 different states across the country, learned and discussed WFWP's goals and vision, our new Chapter Handbook, the Leadership of the Heart curriculum, using social media, and focused on how to create a culture of empowerment in the local WFWP chapters. The three days culminated in a heartfelt Bridge of Peace Ceremony and reflections. Everyone left inspired, rejuvenated, and empowered to go out and continue making the world a better place.- In support of this theme and for the first time, the DC, Maryland, and Virginia chapters spearheaded and hosted Part I of the newly improved curriculum for our Leadership of the Heart seminar series: Discover the Leader Within. This series features spirituality as a core part of cultivating our true selves and being an effective leader in all areas of our lives. The interactive program encourages participants to discover their own intrinsic value and unique contribution to peace. Chapters in California, Massachusetts, and New York also presented the Leadership of the Heart seminar. We're in the process to develop Part II and III of the curriculum in 2019!- WFWP USA collaborates with WFWP International and the UN Office during the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) to create a culture of peace on the international level. At the beginning of every year WFWP USA informs its members and friends about the CSW events and invites to participate. 40 US participants came from around the country to participate with the hundreds from around the world. WFWP USA co-sponsored this year again the Horizon Summit entitled "Rising Side By Side." GLOBAL WOMEN'S PEACE NETWORK CONFERENCE- This year marks the development and launch of the Global Women's Peace Network (GWPN) nationally. It started in the Northeast region in Hempstead, NY with over 70 people in attendance. Hosted by WFWP International President Yeon Ah Moon, WFWP USA President Angelika Selle outlined GWPN's three areas of involvement: 1. Women's leadership, 2. Family, and 3. Environment. After a panel discussion led by five professional and dynamic women leaders, a highlight of the program was the discussion where participants brainstormed projects that would be proposed to the GWPN committee. Conference ended with a WFWP "Peace Starts with Me" Reception as a prelude to the rally with the same title initiated by our founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. WFWP is delighted to have welcome Mayor Don Ryan of Hempstead, NY at the event and to honor four extraordinary women with the WFWP HerStory Award, including NY Assemblywoman Michaelle SolagesCREATING A CULTURE OF PEACE- WFWP chapters across the country held 31 Peace and Reconciliation programs, including 7 Bridge of Peace ceremonies and 127 Education programs empowering women to discover their unique value and innate talents. Among these outstanding programs are:- The pilot project of the Peace Starts with Me: Bridge of Peace Workshop held in San Francisco.- Advancing a true culture of peace, the CO chapter launched the Interreligious Sharing Series in Denver, These series took place three times in 2018 with 30-50 guests in attendance. Participants shared freely their beliefs and concluded building a peaceful society through a God-centered family, transcending race, religion, culture, and language. - Continuing to promote peaceful unification between North and South Korea a topic very close to our Founders' hearts, our WFWP New Jersey chapter held their fifth annual unity event, titled "Peace at Last - Stepping Forward to a New Korea", at the Korean Community Center in Tenafly. This initiatives gathered government officials, community leaders, and peace activists in dialogue and supportive action, allowing many to rethink what needs to take place in the Korean Peninsula for an interdependent world of peace. 300 guests were in attendance.- As part of an international organization in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, we take pride in supporting United Nations efforts. This year, five chapters commemorated the UN International Day of Peace highlighting different avenues to bring about peace, and the reunification of North and South Korea through dialogue and panel discussions. Six chapters also commemorated the UN International Women's Month with programs and discussions on women's role in building peace.- In summary: Over 7,000 people were educated about compassionate leadership and the Culture of Heart.- Throughout the country, the members and friends of WFWP continue to serve their communities. The Washington DC chapter held their Annual Day of Service, which brought together 81 people who may not usually interact-students, teachers, parents, police officers, the Mayor's Office, local Council-member representatives, business owners, and WFWP members-with a common purpose to serve the community.
