About

The Pennsylvania Institute for Community Living (PICL) offers a 15-bed modified therapeutic community residence for individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. It is a subsidiary of the New York City-based not-for-profit Institute for Community Living (ICL) and works with the Montgomery County Mental Health Department. This transitional program, like ICL's NYC community residences for individuals with a mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorder, offers integrated self-help, recovery-oriented treatment along with case management, 24-hour staffing, vocational services and placement in permanent housing. (Continued on schedule O.) Situated in a residence reminiscent of a turn of the century farmhouse, Grove House residents have a unique opportunity for rehabilitation and recovery. Each resident decides, with PICL staff guidance, what he or she wants to accomplish while in the program. These goals range from getting and staying off drugs and alcohol, to feeling good emotionally, to gaining employment and obtaining an apartment, to reuniting with his or her family. It usually takes 12 to 18 months for residents to reach their goals and incorporate recovery into their life.
