Mission

The mission of the International Center of Medieval Art is to promote and support the study, understanding, and preservation of visual and material cultures produced primarily in the Middle Ages in every corner of the medieval world.

About

The ICMA continued administering grants and worked to expand the traditional geographic purview of the medieval art. The mission statement was updated to speak to every corner of the medieval world. Our student travel grants offered students in early stages of their dissertation an opportunity to travel to sites, libraries, and collections to carry out valuable research. The ICMA-Kress Travel Grants provided much needed travel subsides to scholars and students for academic conferences, as their home institutions continue to cut back on funding. In late 2017, the ICMA Finance Committee and the Executive Committee (Officers) voted to accept proposals from the membership on various projects needing funding. This resulted in one-time-only grants in 2018 to successful applicants on a variety of programs: digital resources, publications, conference support, study days, and summer study scholarship.
