Mission

To preserve, collect, promote, and exhibit the history of Madison County and its 15 towns and 1 city. It is headquartered at 'Cottage Lawn', a Gothic Revival villa that is preserved and operated as a historic museum.

About

Craft Days: A juried three-day craft show is put on annually in August or September on the grounds of the historical society; vendors pay for a space to display their goods and there is a small gate fee for attendees. We rely on several volunteers to set up the tents, assist vendors, and to keep the property clean of litter and debris. The historical society also relies on volunteers to remain on-site throughout the evenings to secure the area. Although the number of volunteers varies, on average, we rely on approximately 35 volunteers over the course of the weekend. None of the volunteers is compensated although some of the food vendors provide free lunches to those volunteers who help set up the tents. Attendance to the event always depends on the weather and other activities scheduled in and around the area.
