About

The Organization is committed to helping all women achieve their potential, and improving the lives of women and children in our community. In the 2018-2019 year, the Junior League of Rochester took over operations of the only diaper bank in the Rochester area. Responsibilities include collecting, wrapping, and distributing tens of thousands of diapers to approximately 40 non-profit agency and social worker partners, as well as coordinating with drop off sites and diaper drives. This past year the JLR volunteered over 290 hours wrapping and distributing over 140,000 diapers, averaging 14,000 diapers distributed monthly. (Continued on Schedule O)The Diaper Bank collected over 17,000 diapers from drop off sites and continuous drives and over 40,000 from 35 individual drives. In April, for one weekend alone, JLR volunteers, along with family and friends, wrapped almost 40,000 diapers. In addition to taking on the Diaper Bank, the JLR continued to partner with various community agencies across Rochester, including Sojourner Home at PathStone, Tempro, Willow Domestic Violence, Home Start Hope, Center for Youth, Point in Time Homelessness Count, Lincoln Toy Library, and Chrysalis House. 52 members volunteered 395 hours through 17 community service opportunities. Volunteer events covered a back to school drive for Sojourner Home, painting at Tempro, a holiday drive for Center for Youth, a shopping event to benefit Home Start Hope, a self-care night at Sojourner Home, and donation collection for the Lincoln Toy Library. The Point In Time Homelessness Count saw 17 JLR members volunteer approximately 65 hours, with 651 donated items collected and given to those in need.On the advocacy side, the JLR supported funding for Nurse Family Partnership, which helps qualified low income pregnant women receive support throughout their pregnancy and into motherhood. Through sending letters to elected officials, the JLR was able to help convince the State Legislature to increase funding for this critical program, which passed the State budget at the end of March. This program is supported by contributions.
