Accomplishments

  • Horse rescue and rehabsince our inception in 2005, ess has taken in close to 60 horses that were unwanted, in from abusive situations/starvation, or otherwise in need of rescue. these include horses with severe injuries as well as neglect. we average an intake of 2 to 4 equines per year and adopt out an average of 2 per year. current number of equines at our facility is 26. therapeutic riding / horses helping kids program / equine-assisted therapypath, inc. based therapeutic riding program for persons with physical disabilities. we average 12 to 18 riders per season, who come at least 6 times, typically more. average of 125 150 lessons given per year with this program. we have had some adults, but mostly children. we have riders with cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, add, rett syndrome, ptsd, and other conditions. the equine-assisted learning and therapy is for persons of all ages and consists mostly of ground work with horses, not riding. we did a program for 3 years working with adults with addictions. currently we are doing a program with butterfly healing center, based at the taos pueblo, which is for high risk native american teenagers. 3)education and outreachwe offer lessons for anyone interested in learning about horses and have clinics that are open to the public. past clinics have been offered in horse training (mark rashid, julie phillips), riding and horsemanship (linda benedik, claudia stromberg), and horse care and rehabilitation (dutch henry), to name a few. we maintain a library of resources books, magazines, videos that are available for anyone to view or check out. our outreach work includes going to assist horse owners when asked for help or advise, providing emergency feed (hay), referring owners to other resources if they are in need of veterinary or assistance for their horses.
