About
The Children's Museum of Sonoma County, founded in 2005 out of the back of a minivan, is now a world renowned, interactive place where children and their caregivers can explore and learn in a 'hands-on' environment. The permanent museum, located in +/- 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, was opened in 2014 after $8.3 million capital campaign. Since its opening, people have visited the museum more than 600,000 times and launched the family access program that distribute 350+ free memberships and thousands of free passes to low-income families annually. The museum continues to build new interactive exhibits and programs, custom designed for children aged ten years and younger, are focused on the arts, science, and nature. Now in its sixth year of operation, the Children's Museum of Sonoma County's permanent campus continues to expand its impact and outreach. In FYE 19 the museum hosted over 150,000 guests; visited schools with the mobile museum-on-the-go (MOG); provided scholarship funded field trips, transportation and MOG visits through the access for school kids (ASK) program, offered day camp programs in winter, spring and summer; installed two new major exhibits and continued to expand its planned giving and unrestricted gifts, laying the groundwork for long-term sustainability.
