Mission

The Institute for Citizens & Scholars prepares leaders and engages networks of people and organizations to meet urgent education challenges. The overarching goal is to shape an informed, productively engaged, and hopeful citizenry. We do this in three ways: • We support young people to be better citizens by field-building so that civic learning is at the core of their education and development, from birth to early adulthood. • We network civic leaders to ensure a resilient democracy through programs that strengthen professional networks and develop trust-for-action within and across communities. • We partner with higher education institutions to prepare a diverse and responsive next generation of college faculty and educators and to align higher education’s assets in support of citizen development.

About

Higher education fellowships include a suite of fellowships that support the development of future leaders at a variety of career stages in several critical fields. These programs support young faculty in continuing their careers, strengthen the representation of diverse groups in the professoriate and develop leaders in such areas as gender studies and ethics, as well as prepare experts for the United States Foreign Service.
