PREVENTION SERVICES THE COUNCIL PROVIDES A VARIETY OF SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS PREVENTION, COMMUNITY, RECOVERY AND TOBACCO SERVICES. THESE SERVICES WORK TO INFORM AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS. THROUGH INFORMATION AND EDUCATION INITIATIVES THE COUNCIL PROVIDES YOUTH AND ADULTS WITH THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO ASSIST THEM IN MAKING INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT SUBSTANCE USE. UNDER THE CATEGORY OF PREVENTION SERVICES, THE COUNCIL OFFERS THE FOLLOWING: CLASSROOM BASED SUBSTANCE USE EDUCATION FOR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH COLLEGE AGE INDIVIDUALS, EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE SERVICES, COMMUNITY COALITION DEVELOPMENT, UNDERAGE GAMBLING PREVENTION PROGRAMS, SCREENING, BRIEF INTERVENTION AND REFERRAL TO TREATMENT FOR YOUTH PROGRAMS, PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY AND YOUTH TOBACCO AWARENESS/PREVENTION PROGRAMS. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2018: THE COUNCIL'S INCREDIBLE YEARS PROGRAM HAD 45 PARENTS COMPLETE A MULTI- WEEK PROGRAM. THE COUNCIL HAS GONE INTO SEVEN AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY. EDUCATORS MET WITH APPROXIMATELY 160 STUDENTS THROUGHOUT 2018 TO TEACH THE PREVENTION PROGRAM TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS/TOO GOOD FOR VIOLENCE IN GRADES 3-8. THE COUNCIL HAS MET WITH SCHOOLS IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY REGARDING THE TEEN INTERVENE INITIATIVE AND HAS IMPLEMENTED THE PROGRAM TO 20 STUDENTS IN THE 2018 SCHOOL YEAR. THE COUNCIL'S PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MASSENA DRUG FREE COMMUNITY COALITION TO IMPLEMENT A FIVE-YEAR 625,000 FEDERAL DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES GRANT IS NOW IN YEAR FIVE. THE COUNCIL STAFF ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED ON 4 LOCAL, 53 REGIONAL AND 2 STATE LEVEL COALITIONS AND PROVIDER GROUPS. THE "CONNECTIONS" SUMMER PROGRAM PROVIDED 58 ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY YOUTH WITH JOB READINESS TRAINING SKILLS. THE COUNCIL'S ADVANCING TOBACCO FREE COMMUNITIES GRANT HAS PASSED 2 TOBACCO-FREE POLICIES. THE COUNCIL'S ADVANCING TOBACCO FREE COMMUNITIES GRANT HAS FACILITATED ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE "VAPING" PRESENTATIONS FOR 16 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY.
