Mission

Providence Center was founded by the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus in 1993 in response to the closing of St. Edward’s parish and school, where they had taught for over 100 years. Our community faces numerous challenges, including the highest poverty rate and murder rate, and the lowest median income in Philadelphia. At Providence Center, children are given a safe space to overcome trauma and grow to their full potential, teens acquire the skills and experiences they need to become role models and leaders, and adults find the confidence and skills to speak English. Our mission is to educate people to have the power and spirit to transform their lives.

About

In the spirit of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Providence Center endeavors to be 'a love full of action' in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia. We welcome everyone who has a need for our programs, including the economically poor and many who are new to the country. Respecting the unique dignity of our students, Providence Center is a safe and hospitable place where they can build their skills and find community. While Fairhill faces many challenges, including poverty and violence, we believe our students have the power to transform their lives and community. Providence Center accompanies them on their journey towards justice and hope.
