YORK COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING'S (YCCOA) MISSION IS TO SERVE AS A FOCAL POINT FOR THE PROVISION AND COORDINATION OF A BROAD RANGE OF SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES FOR SENIOR ADULTS IN YORK AND CHESTER COUNTIES, SC. WE STRIVE TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND WELLNESS, DECREASE ISOLATION, AND PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO SENIORS THAT WILL ENHANCE THEIR ABILITY TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY AND REMAIN OUT OF INSTITUTIONS AND WILL HELP TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THEIR LIVES.

YCCOA PROVIDES A HOT, NOON DAY MEAL, THREE TO FIVE DAYS A WEEK IN A GROUP DINING SETTING IN SIX SENIOR CENTERS IN YORK AND CHESTER COUNTIES, SC. DURING THE 2018/2019 FISCAL YEAR, SENIOR CITIZENS RECEIVED 51,599 NUTRITIOUS MEALS ALONG WITH A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES SUCH AS EXERCISE, NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION, CRAFTS, GAMES AND TRIPS. THESE MEALS IMPROVE THE NUTRITIONAL HEALTH OF THE CLIENTS, WHILE DECREASING THEIR SOCIAL ISOLATION. YCCOA ALSO DELIVERS A HOT MEAL, FIVE DAYS A WEEK OR A BOX OF FIVE FROZEN MEALS ONCE A WEEK, TO THE RESIDENCES OF HOME BOUND ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS IN BOTH YORK AND CHESTER COUNTIES WHO LIVE ALONE, ARE UNABLE TO PREPARE THEIR OWN MEALS, AND HAVE NO ONE WHO IS ABLE TO PROVIDE A MEAL FOR THEM. THIS SERVICE ENABLES MANY SENIORS TO REMAIN IN THEIR OWN HOMES, MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE, AND STAY OUT OF NURSING HOMES. THIS FISCAL YEAR, 73,020 HOT AND 3,563 FROZEN MEALS WERE DELIVERED IN YORK COUNTY AND 14,189 FROZEN MEALS WERE DELIVERED IN CHESTER COUNTY. THE MEALS ARE DELIVERED BY VOLUNTEERS AND CAN BE MICROWAVED AT THE TIME THE CLIENT DESIRES TO EAT. MICROWAVE OVENS ARE PROVIDED IF NEEDED.
