About

Tutorial House college admissions results for the class of 2018 continue to bring distinction to the UNIS community. 113 students enrolled in colleges in the United States and abroad. Our students are attending the most prestigious universities in other countries, including the United States. UNIS offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma; the objectives of the IB are to provide students with a balanced and rigorous education, to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility, and to promote international understanding. Candidates follow an intensive prescribed curriculum in grades 11 and 12 that, upon completion is equivalent to the first year of college. In the class of 2018, 122 students participated in the IB program; 110 students sat for the IB Diploma; 107 students earned the diploma (97% pass rate, the world pass rate of 78%). Middle School-Middle School is a critical period for social, emotional and intellectual growth. The MS curriculum builds upon the understandings, skills and knowledge learned in previous years, adding new subjects and additional language options. Students can add study of a third language in addition to the French or Spanish that taught since Junior School. Nine languages are taught in total, with mother tongue instruction available in each languages. Students who speak a language other than English at home and who are not fluent in English are assessed by the ELL(English Language Learners) teachers and placed in beginning, intermediate, or advanced ELL classes, or in a full mainstream program at the appropriate grade level. Technology is an integrated part of the students' lives and experience in the UNIS Middle School through a one-to-one laptop delivery. Junior School- The Junior School provides a supportive, nurturing environment that is an excellent transition from home to school. Children are taught self-reliance and personal responsibility in an atmosphere that fosters self esteem and respect for others. From their very first day, students learn that they are part of a vibrant international community and are encouraged to form a global perspective. French, Spanish, Art, Music and movement are taught alongside traditional subjects. Design technology classes begin in the early grades and are viewed as vital tools for communication, problem solving and information retrieval. English as a second language (ESL) is provided for students with limited English proficiency, and French and Spanish mother tongue classes are offered.
