The mission of the Community of Writers, established in 1970, is to assist talented writers, with diverse cultural perspectives, to achieve their goals in the genres they pursue. Through the interplay of professionals, established writers and talented participants in a community atmosphere, fiction writers are assisted in their arduous journey from writer to author, and poets to achieve a resonant framework for their collected words.

The Squaw Valley Community of Writers Workshops in Fiction,Nonfiction and Memoir is entering its 50th year of workshops, panel discussions, lectures and seminars on the art and craft of fiction writing. The program runs for 7 days with regular workshops in which participants' manuscripts are critiqued by the other participants and staff writers, agents and editors. The events also include panels on agentry and editing. Staff writers read their own works aloud. Writers discuss the craft of writing.
