Mission

Map provides free civil legal help for those unable to afford an attorney. We believe that equal justice is a right, not a privilege, and our programs work to break the justice barriers in our country. Civil legal aid helps individuals and families with issues like: wrongful foreclosures, fraudulent debt collection, escaping domestic violence, eviction and homelessness prevention, accessing health care and disability benefits, immigration, and many other civil court cases.

About

In 2018, Map (miadvocacy.org) handled 20,565 cases and helped 46,420 people. This includes helping 23,212 people with civil legal issues such as family law, evictions, other housing matters, debts, and accessing health care through our local field offices of legal services of South Central Michigan (lsscm.org). Through our statewide programs, Michigan statewide advocacy services (michigansas.org), we visited 225 migrant labor camps, responded to 365 support requests on immigration issues, handled 6,436 foreclosure cases through our Michigan foreclosure prevention project, and had 1.2 million users visit our Michigan legal help website. The Michigan elder justice initiative provided 72 training or other outreach events to educate advocates and community members on elder issues. 645 legal aid advocates received training through our statewide services.
