EDUCATE AND PREPARE STUDENTS WHO ARE 18 YEARS OLD IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE MORE COMPETITIVE IN APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENTS TO THE US SERVICE ACADEMIES (AIR FORCE, NAVY, WEST POINT, MERCHANT MARINE OR COAST GUARD) OR FOR ROTC/UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS. CONCENTRATION IS ON MATH, ENGLISH, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, PHYSICAL CONDITIONING, DISCIPLINE, LEADERSHIP, AND THE HONOR CODE IN A COHESIVE DORM ENVIRONMENT. 84 STUDENTS IN 2018.

84 STUDENTS FINISHED THE PROGRAM THIS YEAR. 72 APPOINTMENTS WERE RECEIVED TO THE U.S. SERVICE ACADEMIES; THE OTHER STUDENTS RECEIVED ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS, ACCEPTANCES INTO ROTC UNITS, ADMISSIONS INTO UNIVERSITIES; AND ONE STUDENT ENLISTED AS A NAVY DIVER. EACH STUDENT SPENT 896 HOURS IN CLASS. THE CURRICULUM INCLUDED COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSES IN CHEMISTRY, ADVANCED MATH TOPICS, PHYSICS, GRAMMAR AND LINGUISTICS, CURRENT EVENTS, THE READING PROGRAM, VOCABULARY SKILLS AND THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONING PROGRAM. IN ADDITION, INSTRUCTORS ADVISED STUDENTS IN METHODS OF EFFECTIVE STUDYING, MEMORIZATION, TIME MANAGEMENT, GOAL SETTING, ORGANIZATION AND PRODUCTIVE HABITS, ALONG WITH LESSONS IN ETIQUETTE AND PROTOCOL. GUIDELINES FOR DRESS IN BUSINESS CASUAL AND MORE FORMAL ATTIRE WERE ESTABLISHED, ALONG WITH STANDARDS OF HYGIENE AND PERSONAL CHOICES LIKE HAIRCUTS, JEWELRY AND TATTOOS. SEMINARS WITH MANDATORY ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS WERE CONDUCTED ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT, THE HONOR CODE, AND MILITARY CAREERS AND OPPORTUNITIES. NORTHWESTERN PREPARATORY SCHOOL COORDINATED VISITS TO THE CAMPUS FROM MANY FORMER STUDENTS WHO ARE CADETS, MIDSHIPMEN AND OFFICERS AND RETURNED TO EDUCATE, ENCOURAGE AND ADVISE STUDENTS. VISITING DIGNITARIES CONDUCTED SEMINARS OR ADDRESSED THE CLASS. THREE BANQUETS WERE HELD WHERE STUDENTS WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN SETTING UP THE DINING ROOM WITH LINENS AND TABLE DECORATIONS, CREATING A SEATING CHART, DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING A PROGRAM. CHURCH ATTENDANCE WAS OPTIONAL WITH NORTHWESTERN PREP PROVIDING THE TRANSPORTATION. WHEN A STUDENT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION, THE SCHOOL FURNISHED THE TRANSPORTATION AND A STAFF MEMBER ACCOMPANIED THE STUDENT TO THE MEDICAL FACILITY. EACH STUDENT WAS COUNSELED WITH REGARDS TO HIS OR HER CHOICE OF ACADEMIES, UNIVERSITIES OR ROTC PROGRAMS. STAFF MEMBERS ALSO WORKED WITH STUDENTS ADVISING THEM IN THEIR APPLICATIONS FOR THEIR NOMINATIONS TO THEIR CONGRESSMEN, SENATORS, THE VICE PRESIDENT, THE PRESIDENT AND THE VARIOUS ACADEMIES. STAFF MEMBERS PROVIDED OVER 500 REQUESTED EVALUATIONS OF PERFORMANCE, ACADEMIC ABILITY, PHYSICAL FITNESS STANDARDS, CHARACTERISTICS OF HONOR, WORK ETHIC, INTEGRITY, LEADERSHIP, COMMUNITY INTERACTION, OR OTHER APPLICABLE TRAITS. NORTHWESTERN PREPARATORY REMAINED AVAILABLE AND OFFERED SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT ONCE THE STUDENTS REACHED THE ACADEMY, THEIR ROTC UNITS OR THEIR OTHER COMMISSIONING SOURCES. NORTHWESTERN PREPARATORY SCHOOL HOSTED GATHERINGS AT THE ACADEMIES PRIOR TO INDUCTION DAYS FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO INCREASE MOTIVATION, TO HELP STUDENTS FOCUS ON SUCCEEDING AND TO CELEBRATE THEIR SUCCESSES. THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR, NORTHWESTERN HOSTED FUNCTIONS FOR THE CADETS AND MIDSHIPMEN AT THEIR ACADEMIES TO ENCOURAGE THEM, TO OFFER SUPPORT AND FOR STAFF MEMBERS TO RECEIVE FEEDBACK ON ACADEMY LIFE. STAFF MEMBERS ALSO VISITED THE ACADEMIES TO MAINTAIN A CURRENT KNOWLEDGE OF ACADEMIC COURSES, REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION, ACADEMY LIFESTYLE AND TO INTERACT WITH THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE STAFF. NORTHWESTERN PREPARATORY SCHOOL WAS CONTACTED BY ORGANIZATIONS THAT PERFORMED BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR SECURITY PURPOSES ON THOSE ENTERING THE ACADEMIES OR ROTC PROGRAMS. FORMER GRADUATES WHO ARE NOW OFFICERS NEEDED ADDITIONAL CLEARANCES FOR HIGHER LEVEL SECURITY ASSIGNMENTS IN THEIR CAREERS, NORTHWESTERN PREP PROVIDED THEM TO THE OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT, THE FBI AND OTHER INVESTIGATIVE BODIES. COMPLETE RECOMMENDATIONS WITH COLOR PHOTO ID'S AND TRANSCRIPTS WERE KEPT ON FILE FOR EACH FORMER STUDENT. STAFF MEMBERS ALSO GAVE APPROXIMATELY 50 PERSONAL INTERVIEWS TO INVESTIGATIVE PERSONNEL TO ASSIST STUDENTS IN REACHING THOSE HIGH LEVELS OF SECURITY CLEARANCE FOR THEIR ADULT CAREERS. NORTHWESTERN PREP MAINTAINED A THOROUGH DATABASE WHICH ALLOWED STUDENTS TO CONTACT EACH OTHER AND FORM NETWORKS IN A MIX OF ALL FORMER CLASSES OF GRADUATES WHILE THEY WERE ON ASSIGNMENTS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD OR WERE JOINING A PARTICULAR SERVICE COMMUNITY.
