About

DROP-IN / OUTREACH / BASIC NEEDS: THE JOURNEY OF YOUTH TOWARD A FUTURE OF HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY IS SOLIDIFIED AT THE BASIC NEEDS/DROP-IN CENTER. THIS CRITICAL FIRST STEP SERVICE GIVES HOMELESS YOUTH THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME OFF THE STREETS AND INTO A COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT WHERE COMPREHENSIVE BASIC NEEDS ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR YOUTH TRANSITION IN TO INDEPENDENCE AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY ARE PROVIDED. Youth have access to meals, showers, laundry facilities, personal hygiene products, clean clothes, lockers and computer stations. Education and Employment Support: The agency believes education is a key out of poverty for young people served. To this end, YouthLink provides a holistic, integrated approach to education directly linked to career and job aspirations. "Learning and earning" is a core model of service delivery; young are directly involved in setting their future pathway. This includes simultaneous education and career readiness assessment, developing education and career competencies through instruciton in independent living skills, individualized tutoring to prepare for the GED, guidance to re-enroll and stay in local schools, first level pre-career internships linked to education training, post-secondary application assistance and fee assistance, financial aid form assistance, classes on personal finance and budgeting, resume building, job search, cooking classes, and ongoing employment subsidy support for youth employed. Youth Opportunity Center: YouthLink hosts and operates the Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) onsite. The YOC brings together multiple nonprofits, services and resources in one place, providing a "one-stop shop" for homeless youth. At present, 32 partnering agencies provide a comprehensive array of support services at the YOC to nearly 2,000 youth annually. These partners are on site at different times throughout a month. At the core of the YOC is the full-service crisis drop-in center -- a low-barrier, basic needs service operating year-round, Monday thru Friday, from 9am to 9am; Saturday - Sunday, 6pm to 9am. Drop-in / Extended Hours Overnight Services: Thanks to a major gift from the Frey Foundation in 2020 ($700,000), YouthLink has now extended day-time drop-in hours to be open overnight. On weekdays, the drop-in is open 24/7, during the weekends it is open from 6pm-9am. Basic needs, food, showers, washers/dryers and staff navigators are all available to young people. Additionally young people are connected to resources for long-term stability support services.
