About
RMARS PRE-EVICTION MEDIATION PROGRAM:MARS HAS DEVELOPED AND LAUNCHED NEW MEDIATION PROGRAMMING FOR HOUSING-RELATED ISSUES -- ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT CAN LEAD TO AN EVICTION ACTION. WE ARE PRESENT IN ANOKA COUNTY DISTRICT COURT TO MEDIATE CASES BEFORE THEY GO IN FRONT OF A JUDGE, AND HAVE HELPED SETTLE 100% OF THOSE CASES SO FAR. AND WE ARE PARTICULARLY FOCUSED ON UPSTREAM WORK: REACHING OUT TO LANDLORDS, TENANTS, AND AGENCIES IN THE COUNTY TO OFFER OUR DISPUTE RESOLUTION SERVICES BEFORE PARTIES REACH THE POINT THAT AN EVICTION ACTION IS FILED. WITH HELP FROM OUR GRANTORS AND PARTNERS, WE HAVE ALREADY MEDIATED CASES FOR SEVERAL LANDLORDS AND TENANTS, WITH 100% OF THESE CASES ENDING IN AGREEMENTS THAT PREVENTED EVICTIONS/HOMELESSNESS. WE PROVIDE A RESTORATIVE JUSTICE RESPONSE TO ADOLESCENTS WHO HAVE NOT GAINED SKILLS IN PROBLEM SOLVING. OUR RESTORATIVE APPROACH ALLOWS EACH PERSON INVOLVED TO TELL THEIR STORY IN A SAFE SPACE WITHOUT INTERRUPTIONS. WHEN OUR YOUTH PARTICIPATE IN THE REPAIR OF HARM CIRCLE IT EMPOWERS THE YOUTH TO HAVE VOICE AS WELL AS LISTENING TO THE PERSON HARMED BECAUSE THERE IS HARM ON BOTH SIDES. RESTORATIVE JUSTICE GIVES YOUTH A LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY THAT PUNISHMENT DOESN'T OFFER. WE ARE EXCITED TO CONTINUE TO GROW, AND TRAIN OTHERS IN RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AS A RESPONSE TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION.
