Mission

Officers were trained to evaluate, identify, and de-escalate crisis situations involving individuals in crisis. This includes mental health, drug, alcohol, and military reintegration issues through the use of classroom participation and role playing with professional actors. The objective of the training is to minimize use of force and seek alternatives to incarceration by training officers to communicate with individuals in crisis and resolve the situation through the use of local resources and to create community partnerships with health professionals and the courts.

As a community mediation program, Community Mediation & Restorative Services, Inc. grew out of the belief that people can often resolve their own conflicts when given the opportunity to come 'to the table' in a safe, neutral place. CMRS works closely with cities, community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and the courts to promote respectful approaches to conflict.
