The Wahiawa Center for Community Health (Wahiawa Health) accomplished several milestones in calendar year 2018. Firstly, it had earned the designation of federally qualified health center (FQHC) look a-like starting on January 1, 2018. As a FQHC look a-like, Wahiawa Health is entitled to receive enhanced reimbursement rates for its Medicaid and Medicare claims. Secondly, its management team was able to secure from the state of Hawaii a prospective payment system (PPS) rate for Medicaid claims that was high enough to support expansion in the future. Thirdly, its providers served close to 5,000 unique patients for a total of 16,128 billable visits for the year. Lastly, the health center was able to purchase another office; complete all major renovations in its biggest clinical suite, which included expanding the total number of exam rooms to 21; and increased access to services via additional expanded services and support for patients, including assistance on the purchase of prescription drugs and transportation from and to the health center.
