Mission

Accountability Counsel amplifies the voices of communities around the world to protect their human rights and environment. As advocates for people harmed by internationally-financed projects, we employ community driven and policy level strategies to access justice. We accomplish our mission through three programs. Advocates in our Communities program support people to effectively use complaint offices to hold institutions accountable to global standards. Our Policy program advocates for complaint offices that are fair, effective tools for justice. In our Resources program, we foster the global movement for accountability through research and trainings. Our work pays particular attention to women, girls and other marginalized groups, who are often the most deeply harmed by abuses.

About

Communities Program: Advocates in our Communities team worked at the request of communities harmed by international investment to raise their grievances through use of accountability offices as part of broader campaigns for justice. Impacts include agreements reached peacefully through dialogue, remedy delivered to local people, and vindication of local peoples grievances through official findings of fact. Details in Schedule O.
