Mission

Since 1996, the Public Interest Law Project (PILP) has provided crucial litigation and advocacy support to local legal services and public interest law programs throughout California. Responding to the elimination of federal funding for state and national legal services support centers, PILP was established to ensure that local legal services programs could continue to participate in major litigation and advocacy on behalf of low-income persons.

About

Vannucci, et al. (formerly Drake) v. County of Sonoma et al. N.D. Cal. No. 18-cv-01955-VC PILP represents homeless individuals who lived at an encampment in Santa Rosa and an advocacy organization regarding the government's sweep of a 100+ person homeless encampment in Santa Rosa and subsequent actions that criminalize homelessness. We successfully opposed a Motion to Dismiss and Motion for More Definite Statement by the City in September 2018. The parties agreed to have Judge Chhabria act as our settlement judge and engaged in several months of settlement negotiations. In December counsel for all the parties finalized preliminary settlement agreement language to recommend to our respective clients.
