Mission

The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health (GPBCH) seeks to increase the value of health benefit spending for its employer members, by improving workforce and community health, increasing healthcare quality and safety, and reducing health care costs. The Coalition represents employer interests in working with health plans, health care providers, benefits consultants, suppliers and other system stakeholders to address population health priorities and to ensure that when health care is needed it is accessible, affordable, high-quality, and safe.

THE COALITION SEEKS TO IMPROVE THE VALUE OF HEALTH BENEFIT SPENDING FOR ITS EMPLOYER MEMBERS BY IMPROVING HEALTHCARE QUALITY AND SAFETY AND REDUCING HEALTHCARE COSTS. CURRENTLY THE COALITION HAS 51 EMPLOYER MEMBERS, REPRESENTING 750,000 COVERED LIVES IN THE GREATER PHILADELPHIA REGION, AND MORE THAN 1.5 MILLION LIVES NATIONALLY. THE COALITION ALSO HAS 49 AFFILIATE MEMBERS - HEALTH PLANS, BENEFIT CONSULTANTS, PROVIDERS, PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURERS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WITH AN INTEREST IN SUPPORTING OUR MISSION. THE COALITION EDUCATES ITS MEMBERS ABOUT BEST PRACTICES FOR IMPROVING EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND THE VALUE OF HEALTH BENEFITS SPENDING THROUGH SEMINARS, WEBINARS AND A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER. MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING PROJECTS THROUGH JOINING ONE OF OUR THREE MEMBER INTEREST GROUPS - EMPLOYEE HEALTH & WELL-BEING, TRANSPARENCY, AND BENEFIT STRATEGY AND INNOVATION. MAJOR PROJECTS BEING CONDUCTED BY THE COALITION INCLUDE ASSISTING EMPLOYERS IN IMPLEMENTING THE CDC'S NATIONAL DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM AND OTHER OBESITY-MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES; SERVING AS THE REGIONAL LEADER FOR THE LEAPFROG GROUP'S HOSPITAL SURVEY ON SAFETY AND QUALITY OF CARE; DEVELOPING RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE BENEFIT DESIGN FOR MANAGING DIABETES CARE AND SPECIALTY DRUG UTILIZATION; AND PROMOTING HEALTHY EATING AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY THROUGH A VARIETY OF CONSUMER AND EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES.
