PROGRAMMATIC SUCCESSES IN FY2018 INCLUDE: AFRICAN CONSERVATION CENTRE (ACC) - ACC-US SUPPORTED MAASAI WOMEN'S BEADING AND CULTURAL TOURISM ENTERPRISES IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN KENYA AND THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF A CONSERVATION SAFARI. AMBOSELI CONSERVATION PROGRAM (ACP) - ACP HAS MONITORED AND CONSERVED AMBOSELI'S WILDLIFE AND ITS ECOSYSTEM TO THE BENEFIT OF ITS PEOPLE FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS. THANKS TO GENEROUS GRANTS FROM THE LIZ CLAIBORNE ART ORTENBERG FOUNDATION IN 2018, ACP HAS BEEN ENGAGED AT BOTH A NATIONAL AND COUNTY LEVEL IN STRATEGIES, LAND PLANNING AND POLICY DEVELOPMENTS THAT BEAR ON THE FUTURE OF WILDLIFE IN KENYA. PROGRAMMATIC SUCCESSES INCLUDE: INCLUSION OF ACP'S MINIMUM VIABLE CONSERVATION AREA CONCEPT INTO THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE CONSERVATION STRATEGY FOR KENYA (NWCS); THE AMBOSELI ECOSYSTEM MANAGEMENT PLAN 2018-2028 DEVELOPED BY ACC AND ACP TO TACKLE THE THREE BIGGEST THREATS TO MIGRATORY WILDLIFE OF THE AFRICAN SAVANNAS, NAMELY LAND SUBDIVISION, SETTLEMENT AND RANGELAND FRAGMENTATION AND DEGRADATION; ESTABLISHMENT OF A RANGELAND DIVISION WITHIN AMBOSELI ECOSYSTEM TRUST; MANAGEMENT AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT OF THREE NEW RESTORATION PLOTS, DATA TO MAP AND TRACK SETTLEMENTS AND MOVEMENT OF WILDLIFE AND LIVESTOCK AND NEW MITIGATION STRATEGIES; ANTI-POACHING MEDIATION; TRAINING OF RESOURCE ASSESSORS IN DIGITIZED MONITORING, TRAINING AND MENTORING YOUNG KENYAN CONSERVATIONISTS; SHARING INFORMATION THROUGH PUBLICATIONS, AND OUTREACH. LAND & LIFE FOUNDATION (LLF) - THANKS TO GENEROUS INDIVIDUAL DONORS, ACC-US SUPPORTED LLF'S WILDLIFE WARRIOR PROGRAM AND THEIR WORK TO SUPPORT THE GANAKO, EMBITI, AND ESITETI PRIMARY SCHOOLS. THE WILDLIFE WARRIOR PROGRAM PROMOTES INTER-GENERATIONAL KNOWLEDGE SHARING, INNOVATIVE THINKING, AND PROACTIVE WILDLIFE CONSERVATION. LOCAL OCEAN CONSERVATION (LOC) - THROUGH A GENEROUS DONATION FROM WILD ARK, ACC-US SUPPORTED LOC IN THEIR MISSION TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY-BASED MARINE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MODELS, UTILIZING SEA TURTLES AS A FLAGSHIP SPECIES FOR LOCAL OCEAN HEALTH. SOUTH RIFT ASSOCIATION OF LANDOWNERS (SORALO)/REBUILDING THE PRIDE REBUILDING THE PRIDE (RTP), RUN BY THE SOUTH RIFT ASSOCIATION OF LANDOWNERS (SORALO), A MAASAI LANDOWNER GROUP, AIMS TO INCREASE LION AND OTHER CARNIVORE NUMBERS ACROSS THE SOUTH RIFT AREA OF KENYA. THE PROGRAM REDUCES HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT, PREVENTS RANGE FRAGMENTATION AND MAINTAINS HEALTHY PREY NUMBERS. THANKS TO GENEROUS DONATIONS FROM LIVING DESERT ZOO, AKRON ZOO AND DONORS, ACC-US CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR MOBILE MONITORING UNITS THAT TRACK LION AND LIVESTOCK MOVEMENTS, IDENTIFY CONFLICT HOTSPOTS, PROVIDE INFORMATION TO LIVESTOCK HERDERS, AND REPORT CASES OF LOST LIVESTOCK AND DEPREDATION TO THE RAPID RESPONSE TEAM.
